How I Learned to Play the Guitar During Lockdown
The lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for many people. It has disrupted our normal routines, limited our social interactions, and forced us to stay at home for long periods of time. However, it has also been an opportunity to try new things, learn new skills, and pursue our passions. For me, one of the best things that happened during the lockdown was learning to play the guitar.I have always loved music and wanted to play an instrument, but I never had the time or the motivation to do so. I used to listen to my favorite songs and imagine myself playing along with them, but I never took any action. I always had some excuse: I was too busy with work, I didn’t have enough money for lessons, I didn’t have a good guitar, etc. But when the lockdown started, all those excuses became irrelevant. I suddenly had a lot of free time on my hands, and I realized that this was the perfect chance to finally learn to play the guitar.
How I Started
The first thing I did was to buy a guitar online. I did some research and found a decent acoustic guitar that fit my budget and preferences. It arrived in a few days and I was eager to start playing. However, I soon realized that playing the guitar was not as easy as it looked. I had no idea how to tune it, how to hold it, how to strum it, or how to play any chords. I felt frustrated and discouraged, but I didn’t give up.
I decided to look for some online resources that could help me learn the basics of guitar playing. There are many websites, apps, videos, and courses that offer guitar lessons for beginners. Some of them are free, some of them are paid, some of them are interactive, some of them are self-paced. I tried a few of them and found one that suited my learning style and goals. It was a website that offered video lessons with a friendly and experienced instructor who explained everything clearly and patiently. He taught me how to tune my guitar, how to hold it properly, how to strum different patterns, how to play simple chords, and how to read guitar tabs.
How I Progressed
I followed the lessons diligently and practiced every day for at least 30 minutes. I also downloaded some apps that helped me practice my chords, scales, and ear training. I watched some YouTube videos that showed me how to play some of my favorite songs. I joined some online communities where I could interact with other guitar learners and share tips and feedback. I gradually improved my skills and confidence and started to enjoy playing the guitar more and more.
One of the most rewarding moments was when I was able to play a song from start to finish without making any mistakes or looking at any tabs. It was a simple song with only four chords, but it felt like a huge achievement for me. It was also a great feeling when I was able to play along with some backing tracks and improvise some melodies. I felt like I was expressing myself through music and creating something beautiful.
How I Benefited
Learning to play the guitar during the lockdown has been one of the best decisions I ever made. It has given me so much joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment. It has also helped me cope with the stress and boredom of staying at home for so long. Playing the guitar has been a great way to relax, unwind, and have fun. It has also been a great way to challenge myself, learn something new, and grow as a person.
Playing the guitar has also opened up new possibilities for me. It has inspired me to explore other genres of music, other instruments, and other forms of art. It has also encouraged me to connect with other musicians and music lovers online and offline. It has given me a new hobby that I can enjoy for the rest of my life.
